The Polo in Portugal, although practiced in the thirtys by the military class, had its beginnings in the form of competitive sport beginning of the 90s. The first chukkers had as a backdrop Quinta da Marinha in Cascais where since the beginning, magnificent tournaments were held, to follow all the infrastructure had moved to the city of Santo Estêvão in Zambujeiro about 60 km from Lisbon where it has been consolidated and kept alive until the present day. Initially with about a dozen players, the number has grown over the years to about 30 active players. The Portuguese Association of Polo which took the first steps in the mid-90 consolidated in 2009 its presence not only improving and adapting their bylaws as renewing their senior managers, adjusting to the best way to have a Polo practice now in our country.
We can say with great pride that we have had as our sponsors Horacio Heguy and the Maharaja of Jaipur. Situated in Santo Estêvão, where at Herdade do Zambujeiro are the main venues in Portugal Polo is the venue of the Polo Club, La Varzea with two polo fields. Still in the same area, is also on the Mount of the Dukes a private polo field.
In recent years the Polo in Portugal has hosted renowned international players and has been the scene of major tournaments where you can stand out from other Trophy Muumi Cordon Rouge International said that in its 1992 edition with the presence as an honored guest of the Maharajah of Jaipur, Cup Republica Argentina and the Open de Portugal.
