Further to the successful clinics of April 2010, the Egyptian Polo Federation organized a second round of Polo clinics from the 2nd through the 14th December 2010 for 30 of its 100 players.
Three clinics were conducted by Gavin Chaplin of South Africa for both the Gezira and Police clubs of Cairo and the Sporting and Smouha clubs of Alexandria. Special time was dedicated to15 players of the Junior teams aging from 12 to 18 year old.
Each clinic was conducted over four days where the first day was spent on the “swing”, the grip and the hitting/riding positions, the use of computer added application detailing all the swing movements was very beneficial in highlighting the needed improvement area(s) for each participating player. The second day was split between the swing practice on the wooden horse in the morning and filmed practice chuckkas in the afternoon. The third and the fourth day consisted of the video review and feedback on the previous day chukkas stressing on the umpiring, rules, tactics, positioning and strategy, followed by further practice chukkas and final overview and wrap up.
Farouk Younes commented “We focused, during 2010, on a variety of training programs including a trip for the Youth Team to Jaipur in August and, hosted by the 61st Cavalry Regiment. We also oragnised two Polo clinics in April and December. Our commitment to training continues during 2011 with special focus on the Juniors.”
