The year 2007 is an outstanding landmark in the history of polo played on the territory of today’s Slovakia. Ist Polo Klub Bratislava 1888 follows tradition of games from Austro-Hungarian time, when basis of this sport were laid in Vienna by the prince Otto Windisch-Graetz, prince Vinzenz Auersperg, count Ferdinand Kinsky and count Gizycki on 23rd October, 1910 by foundation of the first „Reit- und Polo-Klub in Vienna“ . On the territory of Bratislava, in the area of the first turf arena, founded by the count Károly, several friendly matches took place during this period in which „Reit- und Polo-Klub in Wien“ enthusiastic players took part. Polo Klub Bratislava 1888 with its current activities makes direct link to these distinguished historical events. An agreement on foundation of Polo Klub Bratislava 1888 and continuation of traditions was reached at historical stud nearby Bratislava with a documented riding horse breeding tradition since 1888. Presently, it accommodates a livery of noble horde of Lipice horses for Spanish Horse-Riding School in Vienna. Founding members of Polo Klub Bratislava are Miss Henrieta Nagyová (professional tennis player, member of the Slovak National Tennis Team), Dušan Macek (horse breeder), Peter Godányi (polo player, member of the Slovak National Polo Team), Martin Orozco (professional polo player from Argentina). The best Slovak player Ivan Weiss contributed to the club foundation with his precious advice and experience and became a member of the club board. Polo Klub Bratislava 1888 is a member of SPA. SPA (Slovak Polo Association) is polo governing body for the Slovak Republic. SPA represents clubs in FIP (Federation International de Polo) to which it is a member.
