| Argentina - Tortugas Open / Ellerstina, 30 seconds to win |
|
La Dolfina and Ellerstina were running the additonal 30 seconds in the last chukker of the final of the Tortugas Open. La Dolfina, who led the match thoroghout the chukkers, missed a big chance to seal what could have been their first title in the opening competiton of the Triple Crown in Argentina, when Adolfo Cambiaso failed to convert a 60-yards penalty, with less than a minute to go. In a memorable chukker, Facundo Pieres scored to goals that allowed Ellerstina to tie at 13-all, after being outscored by La Dolfina all the game. But with only two seconds to end the match and when everybody expected OT, there was Gonzalito Pieres, who took the ball, and scored the goal that meant not only a 14-13 win over La Dolfina but also Ellerstina's fifth consecutive title in the Tortugas Open. Destiny maybe... but La Dolfina was leading comfortably, expanding their advantage thoroughout the game, to the point that they were leading 12-6 in the fifth chukker. But that was it. Once again, La Dolfina just couldn't make it in the only title they don't have among their many achievements. Ellerstina became a multiple champion in Tortugas. They won six, and five of them consecutive (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011). Facundo Pieres, who scored six goals, was named MVP. His brother Gonzalito's Open Cibernetica took BPP honors, and Adolfo Cambiaso was the final's top scorer, with seven goals. Score Ellerstina: 1-2, 2-6, -3-8, 4-9, 6-12, 11-13, 14-13
