coca-cola_wins_joe-barry-final_.jpgThe 20-goal USPA Joe Barry Memorial Cup was expected to be a close and exciting game between Lucchese and Coca-Cola, and it definitely delivered on its promise, giving spectators a spectacular polo game. Coca-Cola kept the lead from the beginning of the game through the 4th but only by 1-2 goals, until Santi Torres scored for Lucchese, tying the game 8-8.

In the 5th Chukker, Lucchese ahead 9-8, Sugar Erskine scored on a long run to tie the game 9-9. Gillian Johnston followed it up with breaking the tie after the mid-field throw-in - the score now 10-9. The 6th and final Chukker didn't cool things down for either team as Sugar stole the ball from Lucchese scoring again for Coca-Cola - the score now 11-9. Lucchese, not yet giving up, as David Stirling scored a goal in the final minute - now 11-10. Although Lucchese's Santi Torres had possession of the ball, his shot on goal was just wide and there was not enough time left in the game for Lucchese to tie it up. Coca-Cola won the 2012 Joe Barry Memorial Cup 11-9, with Santi Torres of Lucchese named MVP and Sugar Erskine's mare Optima named Best Playing Pony.
